Trying to stay warm while still looking stylish seems to be a problem that constantly plagues us over the winter months. We obviously have our go-to chunky knits and wool coats that are brought out season after season (hence the importance of buying well-made staples), but sometimes we crave something different to shake up our routines. It seems as though everything is getting the knitted treatment right now, whether it's dresses, trousers or accessories. Yet the knitted skirt somehow feels like one of the more accessible options in this category, perhaps because of its relative simplicity and timeless appeal. The best thing is that it solves the problem of trying to appear polished in winter (bulky layers aren't really conducive to feeling pulled-together). Woollen skirts look both elegant and grown-up while also feeling 10 times cosier than any of our other skirts.

The key to finding the right style for you is to consider the silhouette. Personally, I think the most flattering is the fit-and-flare style, which nips in at your smallest point (ASOS's khaki-coloured midi is a great example of this). There are also plenty of ribbed, slim-fit options which tend to look better with a matching jumper and knee-high boots.
