These 5 Investment Items Are Rivaling Chanel Jackets
With the resale market getting bigger by the hour, a clothing purchase is not just a purchase anymore—it's an investment. By choosing the most in-demand designers and pieces, you can get a return on your investment by reselling. If you're not sure what the smartest buys are right now, we've got you covered. We pored over reports from The RealReal and Lyst, which are treasure troves of data on the best-selling pieces in the industry right now.
We've already broken down the best investments when it comes to bags, shoes, and jewelry, and now it's time to tackle clothes. Our yardstick is one of the most popular items of all time: the Chanel tweed jacket. Its ability to sell out on the resale market is undisputed, but there are many other clothing items that are just as smart investments. Scroll down to find out what they are.
Supreme Hoodies
The RealReal dubbed Supreme the number one brand with the strongest resale value over the last decade and noted that its most popular item is hoodies. If you get your hands on one of these coveted hoodies, it will definitely sell quickly on the resale market should you decide to let go of it later on.
Dôen Dresses
The RealReal's year-end report for 2019 cited Dôen as one of its top three contemporary brands for the year according to peak resale value statistics. The L.A.-based brand is known for its floaty dresses and romantic prints that are all over the 'gram.
Burberry Trench Coats
When considering smart investments, you can never go wrong in an iconic piece that will never go out of style—namely, Burberry's trench coats. Though constantly reimagined every season, there are plenty of classic versions that will stand the test of time.
Jacquemus Blazers
In addition to Dôen, Jacquemus also made The RealReal's list of contemporary brands with the highest resale value of 2019. Among Jacquemus's most covetable clothing items are its colorful blazers. Of course, when it comes to bags, the Chiquito reigns supreme.
Moncler Puffer Coats
According to The RealReal, Moncler took the number 10 spot on its list of the brands with the strongest resale value over the last decade. Meanwhile, Lyst included Moncler in its roundup of the hottest brands of the fourth quarter of 2019.

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
