I’m Skipping the Low-Rise Trousers Trend and Wearing This Timeless Alternative Instead
For every noughties-loving, stone-wash-wearing fashion enthusiast, there's someone like me, who has a visceral resistance to 2000s style. Most acutely: the return of low-slung trousers—rather than prompting me to pick up my own pair, this particular revival has caused me to lean even harder into my love of high-waisted trousers. I'm simply more comfortable in a waist-hugging silhouette than the midriff-baring variety.
I'm not going to tell you that high-waisted trousers are the most flattering option for every body type, but they do suit a wide range of shapes and sizes. Whether you have a tapered-leg or flared pair in mind, higher altitudes of waistband do a good job of nipping in and skimming over the hips.
It seems spring 2024 is my time to shine, because high-street brands and luxury fashion houses alike are taking trousers to new heights. Loewe, Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton all played with fresh proportions at their recent shows, sending corset-esque trousers down the catwalks in an extreme interpretation of this time-honoured trouser shape.
The presence of high-rise trousers in SS24 collections has prompted me to pinpoint the best, most wearable iterations. Keep scrolling to take a look at my top 20 waist-cinching pant picks for every budget.
