The Basic Item That Became One of This Season's Biggest Trends
I am one of those people who proudly identify themselves as a high-street fashion enthusiast. While I'm always conscious of my consumption, I'm also a strong believer in the power of an affordable gem—the rush of excitement you get when you find a pair of trousers that has the cut and quality of a high-end buy without the three-figure price tag.
On Joy Montgomery: Zara Organza Blouse With Bow Detail (£40).
There are certain things the high street is particularly good at. One of those things: statement tops. There aren't many items that can transform a look quite like a showstopping blouse or shirt, and I've noticed that brands like Zara have become particularly good at creating pieces that rival their designer counterparts. For example, you'd never know that Zara's recent influx of organza buys hadn't come straight off the runway—the pink bow-tie top set my pulse racing and has been on my mind ever since (see image above).
Throughout my research, it became clear that this season's statement tops can be loosely grouped into five themes: sheer, printed tees, puffed sleeves, sculptural cotton styles and fashionable florals. Each one will offer a different finish to your look, whether you fancy a bit of psychedelic tie-dye or a retro flower print. My personal faves include Zara's pink top (obvs), & Other Stories' abstract-print style and H&M's yellow puffed-sleeved tee. Scroll down to see and shop my full edit.
