My 62-Year-Old Mom Swears By This Luxe Basic, so I Tried It

My mom has turned me on to so many things that have ended up becoming part of my daily routine, from her love of cooking to her consistent yoga practice. There's a lot we share, but our taste in clothes has rarely been one of those things. I love my mom to the core, but our style sensibilities tend to be night and day, with my sleek and minimal choices clashing with her vibrant and bohemian inclinations. Recently, though, we've found a rare common ground with one timeless wardrobe staple: cashmere sweaters.

My mom's closet features an impressive collection of cashmere knits, which she reaches for all year round. To be honest, I can't remember the last time I saw her without one, whether she was layering with it or draping one over her shoulders. So when the Italian cashmere label Falconeri invited me to test-drive its signature cashmere pullovers during a recent Montauk getaway, I immediately knew who to call.

Luxe basics were a big theme on the spring/summer 2022 runways, so I was excited to try out the elevated staple that's both fashion person and mom approved. Now that I did, I'm never turning back. Mom, if you're reading this, you were right. Ahead, see how I'm styling my new knits and shop more of my cashmere favorites.

Draping a pullover over your shoulders is such an easy and chic summer layering hack.

To balance the sweater's classic vibe, I paired it with a miniskirt, a more trend-forward staple this season.

I also love the idea of throwing a cashmere knit over a button-down shirt for a relaxed but polished finish.

A relaxed pullover and jeans are great foundational closet staples. Together, they're a cool off-duty ensemble.

Yep, summer cashmere sweaters are a thing. Throw one on as an extra layer over a tank and sandals.

Marry the luxe knit with something more outgoing for a fun contrast.

Simple is always the way to go. Pair your sweater with everyday gold jewelry and white jeans.

Throw one on over a pretty dress to transition it from summer to fall.
