Bridal Trouser Suits Are Killing Off Traditional Wedding Dresses

There’s no denying the allure of wedding dresses. Unlike celebrities who wear expensive frocks on a weekly basis, our wedding day is one of the few occasions where we can wear a magical dress. Which is likely why so many people default to layers of tulle, chiffon and organza when it comes to their big-day attire. But what if dresses just aren’t your thing? Instead, we recommend striding down the aisle in a bridal trouser suit.

It’s by no means a trend exclusive to 2018, though. Grainy shots from 1971 of Bianca Jagger wearing her ivory bridal suit (albeit a skirt in lieu of trousers) will be a firm fixture on every fashion-obsessed bride’s Pinterest boards for years to come. But it seems this is indeed the year of the two-piece, as evidenced by fashion director Alex Carl, who opted for a chic Racil tuxedo for her nuptials. Made in Chelsea veteran Millie Mackintosh also channelled her inner Jagger when she exchanged her vows in a flounced set, complete with a wide-brimmed hat. Emily Ratajkowski also bucked all traditions in her mustard-coloured suiting from Zara.

Effortlessly elegant and timeless, the bridal trouser suit is arguably more interesting to style than conventional floor sweepers. Take shoes, for example. Knowing they’ll be on full display means you’ll need to award them special consideration. Who could forget Carrie Bradshaw’s blue Manolo Blahniks from her ceremony? Follow her lead and choose a standout pair to make your overall ensemble even more memorable.
