18 Supplements a Beauty Blogger Swears By to Feel Youthful and Energetic
If you've been reading our content for a while now here at Who What Wear, you're likely already familiar with one of our favorite lifestyle, beauty, and fashion bloggers, Melissa Meyers (also known as The Glow Girl). Not only is Meyers practically a savant when it comes to navigating clean, nontoxic beauty, but she also loves to routinely share her best tips and tricks when it comes to aging. Refreshingly, Meyers is all about embracing the aging process and empowering women to be the best version of themselves—whether that's taking the leap and experimenting with clean beauty products, embracing self-tanners (instead of the sun), or just knowing the best and most effective makeup hacks. Previously, for instance, she divulged her go-to beauty secrets before she takes video calls.
If you're like us, wellness (and, honestly, just maintaining a healthy emotional equilibrium) has been top of mind lately. And while supplements are definitely not the be-all and end-all to feeling like our best selves both mentally and physically, certain additions, like Sakara's Super Powder, can be immensely helpful. Whether you're adding some CBD to your morning latte or taking a sleep supplement like melatonin, these little things can make a big difference in the long run. Therefore, being the wellness- and beauty-loving blogger that she is, Meyers is sharing some of her go-to supplements that not only perk up her energy and increase her youthful vitality but also just help her feel like the healthiest version of herself.
Before starting any new supplements or vitamins, we always recommend talking to a trusted health professional to get the all-clear, not only to ensure you're taking the appropriate dosage but also to confirm that the supplement is something your body can actually benefit from. We're all different, and a professional can evaluate whether a new addition can be safely combined with any other supplements or medications you've incorporated into your routine. From beauty sleep–inducing gummies to collagen-spiked tea, Meyers is sharing 18 of her favorite supplements just below. Keep scrolling!
The Multivitamin
"This is a special multivitamin for women 50+ that I like to take to fill any gaps in my diet," Meyers discloses. "It contains nine ingredients in an easily absorbable form that my body can use to support the changes that come along with the aging process."In addition to the fresh, minty taste and smell (a welcome change from most multis on the market), the capsule includes folate, boron, vitamin D3, vitamin E, magnesium, omega 3 DHA, vitamin K2, and vitamin B12.
Bone Health
"I am always wearing sunscreen and can’t count on getting all my vitamin D from the sun, so I supplement with a high dose of 5000 IU daily," shares Meyers. "Not only is vitamin D great for bone, muscle, teeth, and immune health, but it has also been reported to reduce respiratory infections like pneumonia, the flu, and bronchitis."
Brain Health
According to Meyers, she likes to take Tru Niagen to help increase her NAD+ levels to support cell health and resilience. "Since I have been taking it for over a year now, I notice a big difference in my energy and my mental focus!" she says.
Antioxidants
Glutathione is often called "the master antioxidant" and is widely for its anti-aging properties and the potential to help reduce cell damage as we get older. Meyers counts it as one of her favorite supplements to feel bright and energetic.
"NAC is known for its antioxidant activity and can actually increase glutathione to help with detoxifying the body," notes Meyers. "This important supplement also helps support overall wellness including optimal lung, liver, kidney, and immune function. It’s a must-take in my book."
Hormone Balance
According to Meyers, this hormone-balancing supplement has allowed her to bid farewell to hot flashes and night sweats. It's a natural, hormone-free supplement made from the pollen of specific plants grown in Sweden. "Since I can't take hormone supplements, I've found relief by taking two of these before bed as part of my nighttime routine. I also like that they are small and easy to swallow!"
"This is a great, natural supplement that works very well for me and many other menopausal women for balancing hormones and mood swings—plus it also reduces hot flashes and night sweats," Meyers tells me.She recommends experimenting with the dose to see what feels best for your body. For instance, the brand recommends taking four pills a day as the regular dose, but Meyers has found taking just two per day does the trick.
Probiotic
"Taking a probiotic every day to maintain my gut health has been great for keeping my immune system and microbiome in check," says Meyers. She loves this plant-based, allergen-free, and organic probiotic for an extra dose of holistic gut support.
Protein Powder
"This delicious chocolate-flavored protein powder is a fave of mine, and I love to start my day every morning with it as an almond milk latte," attests Meyers. She notes that the formula is packed with other nutrient-dense ingredients and even contains a unique blend of probiotics and prebiotics, making it another great addition if you're trying to boost your gut health.
Hair Health
"Natural hair loss can occur with stress and aging, causing texture and thickness to definitely change," says Meyers. She says she's been taking these supplements since last fall and has already noticed a huge difference in the look, volume, feel, and speed of growth from her hair.
Sleep Health
Meyers attributes these fan-favorite blackberry-mint gummies from Olly for getting optimum beauty sleep each night: "They taste like candy and are a great way to boost your body’s natural sleep hormone to help mellow your mind to relax." They're strategically formulated with a blend of melatonin, L-theanine, and botanicals.
"Not only are these gummies helping me get my beauty rest and wake up refreshed, but they taste great too," cites Meyers. "I am a huge fan of this brand formulated for women by women!"
Skin Health
Since we begin to naturally lose collagen as we age (and since ample collagen keeps our skin firm and supple), Meyers says she likes to sip her daily dose via these yummy, lightly flavored bevies. Each can Is packed with 3000 milligrams of collagen peptides with 20 calories, three grams of protein, and zero added sugars.
Tinctures & Superfoods
"I’m always game for anything chocolaty and delish, so I was thrilled to recently discover the joy of Joya!" exclaims Meyers. "This cacao elixir blend is a great stress-supporting supplement in a powder form and contains the adaptogenic Reishi mushroom. Mix with water or any type of milk-plus can be added to coffee, yogurt, oatmeal, and baked goods!"
According to Meyers, Kroma makes some of the best caffeine-free superfood powders money can buy and loves the brand's lattes as a healthy, midafternoon pick-me-up. This turmeric golden latte is her go-to.
"I wish I could say I like the taste of water, but I need a flavor boost, so these infusion drops make drinking my required daily amount a lot more fun," Meyers tells us. "They help me to stay hydrated, and I get the antioxidant benefits from the green—raspberry and peach are my favorite flavors."
If you're not a big fan of caffeine, Meyers recommends this unique blend of mushrooms instead to help boost focus and energy. "Four Sigmatic makes the best mushroom blends that aid in wellness, immunity, and focus. It’s easy to make a yummy latte by just adding boiling water and steamed milk of choice."
