Bella Hadid Shows Us How to Wear Off-the-Shoulder Into Fall

It’s been almost impossible to ignore the fact that the off-the-shoulder silhouette has been the number one trend of the summer (by a long shot). If you’re as obsessed with the trend as we are, you probably don’t want to retire it come fall—and with a simple update, you don’t have to.

Bella Hadid stepped out in Los Angeles yesterday wearing C/Meo Collective’s Life Is Real Long Sleeve Knit Dress ($250). The key to making the off-the-shoulder trend work for fall is choosing the right fabric: Simply swap cotton and linen iterations for a ribbed knit material like Hadid’s dress is, and you can keep wearing it well into winter. Of course, the long sleeves on her version are extra helpful to offset your exposed shoulders for colder temperatures. Plus, her shoe choice is perfect for autumn: Come September, switch your strappy sandals for high-top sneakers and you’ll be comfortable and seasonally appropriate. Why is it that Bella Hadid is always ahead of the game?

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
