This £40 Tool Keeps My Skin So Glowy and Healthy, I Might Never Get a Facial Again

Not yet rated

The beauty world is awash with so many skincare gadgets that it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Which tech-y tools are worth the money and actually give good results at home, and which are best left to the professionals in a clinic? I've tested a fair number of beauty devices in my time, so I like to think it’s now fairly easy for me to separate the wheat from the chaff.

If you're in any way interested in skin treatments, you’ll have heard of the Hydrafacial. It’s a unique multi-step facial that you can’t re-create at home, as it requires a clinic-grade system and proper training to perform. It’s been my go-to facial for a while and it's the only one I’ll recommend if someone wants to instantly improve the look and feel of their skin. This deep cleansing, gently resurfacing and glow-giving treatment gets incredible results every time. I’ve never encountered an at-home device that could even come close to a professional Hydrafacial. Until now.

Enter the StylPro Hydro Exfoliator: a nifty little gadget that’s surprisingly very affordable. It’s hard for skincare tech to pique my interest nowadays, as most devices are just variations of the same thing—LED masks, sonic cleansing brushes, microcurrent devices… you get the idea. However, as soon as I saw the StylPro Hydro Exfoliator, I knew I had to try it out. I’ve been using it for a few months now and it’s become a staple in my routine. I’ve even developed a few clever little tricks for using it to make it do even more for my (and your) skin.

What Makes the Stylpro Hydro Exfoliator Unique?

Stylideas is the company behind StylPro. I spoke to founding CEO and innovation director Tom Pellereau about how the device works. He says, "Unlike regular 'pore-extracting' devices on the market which just suck, our Hydro Exfoliator gently pushes a liquid solution into the skin then gently vacuums it up. This action is just like you might get in a salon and helps unclog pores, remove excess oils and eliminate makeup residue, leaving your skin refreshed and revitalised. It’s also rechargeable, refillable and easy to use; and comes with six different cleansing tips for a totally bespoke experience."

There are three soft silicone tips for gentler, more pliable suction, and three hard plastic tips for stronger suction; so you can personalise your treatment. I think it's the liquid circulation that makes this device so special and effective though, as it allows you to really clean the skin by flooding it with liquid then sucking up the gunk. Now that I have it in my life, it’s not going anywhere.

How Do You Use the Stylpro Hydro Exfoliator?

This device can be used in different ways depending on your skin’s needs at the time. Pellereau says it "provides a deep cleanse of the skin, removing dead skin cells, excess oils and makeup residue, whilst helping to unclog the pores. It provides a boost of hydration, and leaves the skin plump, glowing and radiant. It does this by utilising a combination of suction and liquid circulation, which extracts impurities from the pores, whilst simultaneously infusing the skin with your chosen liquid."

I've found it to be amazing for dealing with rogue breakouts, helping them to clear faster. For this, I like to fill the chamber with a salicylic acid toner so that the pores are being treated as well as cleaned. I also use it to boost radiance and enhance my normal morning cleanse by making it more effective. After using my sonic cleansing brush, I then go in with the Hydro Exfoliator loaded with an AHA and BHA toner to act as a glow-boosting liquid exfoliant.

Another way I use it is in place of a second cleanse at night, when I’m removing makeup and SPF. For this, I like to mix a bit of gel cleanser with water and pop that in the chamber. You’ll be amazed at how much makeup you left on your skin when you look at the contents of the second chamber after the liquid circulation is complete—gross.

How Does the Stylpro Hydro Exfoliator Differ From a Hydrafacial?

Let’s be real here. A Hydrafacial costs around £150 for a reason: it gives unrivalled results. Instant "glass skin" from heavy-duty exfoliation, plumpness from a powerful moisture infusion and all pores fully extracted. You aren’t going to get those results from the StylPro Hydro Exfoliator, but you can get similar results. And it can even extend the results you get from a Hydrafacial so that you need to have the treatment less frequently.

The StylPro Hydro Exfoliator will give your skin a deep clean whilst infusing it with moisture or a treatment solution. You'll also get a glow boost as a result of your facial circulation being stimulated from the treatment.

My Beauty Editor Verdict on the Stylpro Hydro Exfoliator

With most beauty gadgets costing between £100 to upwards of £300, this is a very affordable option if you feel your skin needs cleansing more deeply and you want to boost its glow. And with an in-clinic Hydrafacial costing around £150 per treatment, I'd say the device is definitely worth it, even if you only get a fraction of those results.
