According to Editors (and Chrissy Teigen), Ilia's Latest Lip Launch Is Destined for Cult Status
This may come as a shock, but even as a beauty editor, I'm not usually one for a dramatic lip look. Don't get me wrong; I do love a good gloss or lipstick for the right occasion, but for everyday wear, I normally keep it pretty simple. That was until I spotted Chrissy Teigen in a new lip launch that made me do a double take. It's rich, pigmented, and hydrating and just looks so damn good on every skin tone. See below.
What caught my attention is that Teigen happens to be wearing Ilia's newest lip launch the Lip Sketch Hydrating Crayon ($26). The model and entrepreneur was spotted rocking it on set as part of her look, and I was immediately intrigued when checking out the formula. This launch provides the comfort and hydration of a lip balm, the precision of a lip liner, and the pigment of a vampy lip stain all in one. It dries down to a soft matte finish, which is definitely ideal for longer wear. I also managed to do some digging and found out that Teigen's makeup artist Billie Gene used the shade Pink Door.
Naturally, I just had to get my hands on this and try it for myself. Spoiler alert: I'm hooked. I decided to give one shade a try first just to see if I liked it and, boy, did I. Like I mentioned above, I usually keep my everyday lipcare simple and put on a gloss that's either slightly tinted or clear. This, however, pairs so well with a gloss but can also be worn alone as a lipstick.
My co-worker and fellow beauty editor Kaitlyn McLintock also recently got me to try a few new lip combos for fall, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved wearing a little more color every day. This crayon is the perfect thing to pair with a clear or tinted gloss like Ole Henrikson's Pout Preserve Lip Treatment ($22). I paired Ilia's Lip Sketch in the shade Brick Rose with Pout Preserve in Cocoa Crème—it's easily going to be my go-to look for fall. The shade pictured above is Pink Door, the one Teigen wore, and I can't wait to give that one a shot. Teigen and I have a similar tone, so I hope it will pair well with the many glosses I have lying around my apartment.
This has a soft matte finish, and I know that can be concerning for some folks who have dry lips like I do, but fear not. I actually found this to be really hydrating and it didn't flake or anything throughout the day. It also plumps your lips up a bit with ingredients like seaweed extract and hyaluronic acid. For all the lip products I'm pairing this with and a few other fall favorites, take a peek below.
More Lip Products I'm Loving Right Now
As I mentioned above, this gloss is amazing to pair with Lip Sketch, but I also love wearing it on its own. It adds the perfect touch of color to your lips without being overwhelming, and it's so moisturizing. It's hands down one of my favorite lip treatments ATM.
McLintock also got me into Ortega Beauty's insanely good lip liner. If you're not familiar, Ortega Beauty is the eponymous brand from Etienne Ortega, makeup artist to stars such as Lana Del Rey and Christina Aguilera. The man knows makeup, okay? Just trust me when I say this is one of the best lip liners I've ever used.
When I do want to go for a little more color on the lips, I'll definitely whip out Violette_FR's Bisou Balm. It's a matte lipstick and hydrating balm in one—perfect for the upcoming fall season.
This little mini set of Tilbury's cult-loved liner and lipstick is perfect to keep in my bag.
If you haven't tried Glosshood Main Squeeze Lip Gloss yet, please rectify that immediately. If you like an ultra-juicy, glossy look, this is your ticket. The flavors also smell so good.
This is a recent favorite from Summer Fridays, and I can't get enough. I love the shades, and it delivers a lot of shine and long-lasting hydration to the lips.
YSL beauty is an obsession of mine, and this oil-lipstick hybrid is such a winner. It's definitely glossier, so keep that in mind if you like a matte finish, but it's so pigmented, gorgeous, and comes in a variety of shades.
