I Live in NYC and Am Not a "Trend Person"—These Chic Pieces Work Best for Me
New Yorker Elaine Davis is a go-to source when we're looking for easy yet chic outfit ideas. Given that she's lived in NYC for decades, she's perfectly mastered that effortless vibe for her life on the go. But here's the thing: She's not really a "trend person," per se. She tends to go for more of those modern classics instead.
"It's no secret that I adore a good fashion trend here and there, but I'm definitely not a trend person. My shopping game plan usually consists of sprinkling a couple of select trendy pieces into my wardrobe each season. At the end of the day, it's always the chic and classic pieces that work double duty for me and are the foundation of almost every outfit I wear," Davis said. So with that in mind, we thought we'd get a sense of the chic pieces that are currently staples in her wardrobe in case you're looking for style and shopping inspiration. Keep scrolling for more.
Blazer
"Blazers are the glue that holds my wardrobe together. I reach for them throughout every season."
Slip Skirt
"Slip skirts pair well with absolutely every item in my wardrobe. I wear them with stilettos, sneakers, sweatshirts, blazers… You name it. A good slip skirt is what I like to refer to as my wardrobe hero piece."
Striped Cardigan/Sweater
"There's nothing chicer or more classic than a striped sweater."
Midi Dress
"Midi dresses are always my go-to when I want to look über-chic. They're a no-fail look, even when paired with sneakers."
Moto Jacket
"Add a moto jacket to any outfit, night or day, and it'll instantly up the chicness factor of the entire look."
Cigarette Pants
"Chic slim-ankle pants work equally as well at the office, on a dinner date, or casually on the weekend."
