6 "Basic" Autumn Outfits That Make Getting Dressed So Easy
Autumn is already on our minds, and even though we're just part-way through August, I secretly can't wait for layering season to roll back around. In the UK we’ve already had a taste of what the cooler months will bring, and we’ve started to notice a few of our autumn favourites gracing the streets a little early.
When you're switching from summer to autumn styling, it can be difficult to get back into the habit of layering. Finding reliable garments that layer well on a cool day—but also look great on their own—can take a lot of time. Once you've got those foundational pieces, it's even trickier working them into the rest of your wardrobe as you adapt to the weather demands, change in colour palette and general mood of autumn.
To give you a head start on honing your autumn wardrobe, we've gathered six easy-to-copy casual outfits to see you through the season and beyond in style.
6 "Basic" Autumn Outfits I'll Wear on Repeat This Season
1. Maxi Skirt + T-Shirt + Blazer
Style Notes: Billowy, white skirts rocketed in popularity this year, and we're expecting them to stick around whilst the season turns. To make your maxi more weather-appropriate, style with a boxy T-shirt and layer with an oversized blazer.

I've been tempted by lots of white skirts, but Reformation's is my favourite.
2. Bomber Jacket + Light Trousers + White Tee
Style Notes: As summer rounds off, we're seeing the distressed leather bomber jacket emerge as the fashion set's outwear of choice. The relaxed finish lends itself to casual dressing, and the bomber fit pairs well with loose trousers or jeans.

White trousers lend themselves well to transitional styling.
3. Knit Dress + Ballet Flats + Long Coat
Style Notes: A reliable knit dress and go-to pair of flats are the cool-weather dream team. Invest in a quality knit dress and you'll find you can style it for almost any occasion.

4. Trench + Jeans + Loafers
Style Notes: If there are two things autumn calls for, it's trench coats and loafers. Look out for a trench in a soft, lightweight fabric that you'll be able to reach for as a light cover-up for the remainder of August, before pairing with woollen knits when it gets chillier.

5. Column Skirt + Slouchy Knit + Knee-High Boots
Style Notes: If you're looking for an outfit with minimal input and maximum effect, look no further than a sleek long skirt paired with classic knee-high boots. The whole outfit is based on three staple pieces, yet the overall effect is undeniably impressive.

6. Jumper + Shirt + Trousers
Style Notes: If I'm ever stuck on what to wear, I'll pull out a reliable white cotton shirt and layer it with a wool or cashmere jumper. This no-fuss look leans on the preppy side but can be dressed down with some sandals or trainers.
