From The Bear to the Red Carpet, We're Eating Up Anything Ayo Edebiri Is Serving

While there's plenty of attention currently being given to Jeremy Allen White's Carmy in The Bear and his $95 white T-shirt and collection of vintage jeans stored in his oven, the internet has been looking toward another character on the series—Sydney, played by Ayo Edebiri. TikToks were quickly made about her casual yet cool looks on the show, with items like her Paloma Wool puffer jacket and Madewell fleece selling out after people rushed to source them online and hit "add to cart." Considering The Bear is primarily about food, not fashion, there's a general surprise at such a sartorially induced reaction. But costume designer Courtney Wheeler knew it all along. "Chefs, especially at the levels they are at, have such distinctive personal styles," she tells us. "Sydney and Carmy both appreciate quality and design, but their approaches are different. Carmy is about a classic, a uniform. No matter what combination he puts on in the morning, it's going to go together. Syd, often the only woman, especially a BIPOC woman in these spaces, her choices are more expressive and bring her point of view in and out of the kitchen."

When Sydney opens up her Thom Browne chef jacket in the show's season finale, it all clicks together. The physical jacket took about five to six months to source. "We actually changed the shooting schedule a little bit to accommodate getting the jackets (we have multiple) in time. Worth it!" Wheeler shares with us. It isn't just a moment for Sydney—Edebiri has a budding off-screen relationship with the brand as well. She wore custom Thom Browne to the Emmy Awards and Critics Choice Awards, attended the 2022 CFDA Awards with the designer (his first as the organization's chairman), and sat front row at the brand's first couture show earlier this year. She is slowly making a name for herself as a fashion person, and we've gathered her top-notch looks below to prove it.

Whether she's wearing overalls in the kitchen or a custom look on a red carpet, Edebiri is serving, and we'll happily eat it up (as long as she makes us one of those omelets too). Keep scrolling to see her best looks on- and off-screen and shop the creative yet low-key style seen on The Bear.
