This Actress Is Redefining Red Carpet Style, One Achingly Cool Look at a Time
There are many actors who boast talents that go beyond acting; some can sing, others can dance and some cobble shoes (here's looking at you, Daniel Day-Lewis). However, one of the bright stars of 2020 isn't just an actor; she's also a comedian, a rapper and now a fashion muse. Of course, we're talking about Awkwafina.
Although you most likely know her from 2018 blockbusters Crazy Rich Asians and Oceans 8, Awkwafina has been bossing the music and movie industry since 2012, after a video of her singing went viral. Since, she's been snapped up to star in a host of Hollywood movies and just last week she earned herself a Golden Globe Best Actress win in the category of Musical or Comedy for her starring performance in the acclaimed film The Farewell, making her the first Asian-American woman to win the award.
Yes, Awkwafina is someone that's worth paying attention to at the moment, and that's exactly what we've been doing, particularly when it comes to her clothes. From her elegant Golden Globes ensemble complete with tulle collar to the sharp suiting she favours when on the premiere trail, Awkwafina's outfits always hit the mark and are a tribute to her achingly cool persona.
Seeing as she's set to be one of the biggest hits on the red carpet this award season, we thought it was high time we charted Awkwafina's style. As such, keep scrolling to see her best-ever looks.
Awkwafina's classic Dior dress is made even more high-end with the addition of a cropped tuxedo jacket.
The puff sleeves, the high neckline, the rose gold fabric—can we borrow this once you're done, Awkwafina?
Awkwafina's obsession with tailoring is evident, but this might just be our favourite suited look of the actor.
For the premiere of Jumanji 2, Awkwafina opted for this pretty Valentino floor-sweeper complete with apt jungle print.

Awkwafina knows that a double-breasted blazer is the easiest way to dress up a basic T-shirt. Well played.
The epitome of ladylike chic in a houndstooth collared shirtdress complete with Mary Jane shoes and an elegant top-handle bag.
The abstract eye print makes for a very refreshing change from typical florals or stripes.
A vision in pink tulle and needlepoint.
This ensemble is exactly the sort of thing we'd like to wear to work every day.
Feathers are a key micro-trend for spring/summer 2020, so kudos to Awkwafina for getting in on it early.
Note how she masterfully matches the colour of her courts to a panel in her dress. Bravo, lady.
This Missoni number looks so elegant on Awkwafina.
We take it back—this is our favourite suit look of Awkwafina's.
This dress is as timeless as they come. Side note: We love how Awkwafina's worn these shoes on the red carpet over and over.

Victoriana-style dresses are set to dominate 2020; rest-assured, Awkwafina is already into them.
Pink and green isn't a colour combination we would have thought about trying previously, but now it's all we can think about.
Awkwafina gives her sophisticated blouse-and-trouser pairing an unexpected lift with the addition of neon heels.
Clearly someone has been reading our trend report, as coloured leather is going to be huge in 2020.
