The Key Autumn Pieces You Can Buy Now, Whatever Your Budget
It's finally here! Our bumper 2020 autumn shopping special, featuring all the styles and silhouettes that you can expect to see hitting the streets (socially distanced of course) in the coming months. If you've read our autumn/winter trend report, you'll know that as an industry, we're moving toward a more seasonless and timeless approach to design, which transcends traditional notions of trends. "We are certainly seeing designers choosing to showcase a selection of really wearable pieces, more so than other recent seasons,” says Elizabeth von der Goltz, global buying director at Net-a-Porter. "This reflects the customer’s desire to make more considered purchases with sustainability in mind by investing now and wearing forever."
Lockdown has also arguably encouraged people to develop a more open-minded attitude to shopping, with many vintage and small brands harnessing online platforms as a way to reach a newly digitalised audience. This is why for our 2020 autumn shopping edit, we wanted to reflect this more approach and for each category offer up a high-street, designer and second-hand iteration.
This year's spotlight buys have continued last year's elevated-basics theme with understated luxury being the buzzwords for the season ahead. Lydia King, fashion director at Harrods, says her hero pieces for at-home dressing this autumn are "relaxed silhouettes, cocooning knitwear, easy dresses, silk separates and chunky boots for stepping outside." Well, we won't argue with that. Scroll down to see and shop the styles that we're rating for autumn/winter 2020.
