According to Dior's Beauty Pro, These Are Autumn's 5 Biggest Makeup Trends
Autumn is almost upon us, and I'm so ready for cosy days spent pottering around at home with a hot chocolate in hand. When autumn rolls in, I always look forward to getting out all of my favourite jumpers, cardigans and jackets and switching up my wardrobe, and I make sure to do this with my beauty products, too.
From my skincare routine to my hair colour and even my autumn pedicure shade, there are lots of things that I like to chop and change. However, one thing I struggle with the most is my makeup. In summer, I tend to favour lightweight foundation formulas, and often skip lipstick and mascara all together. But, when autumn arrives, I'm never too sure how to transition my makeup into the new season, which is why I like to be ahead of the game when it comes to the latest trends so I know exactly which products to use, and what to do with them.
So, I took it upon myself to reach out to Dior Makeup pro artist Jamie Coombes to find out what looks we can expect to see everywhere this season. From big brows to berry cheeks, it's safe to say that I am very excited to give these trends a go, and I've rounded up all of the information on each one below.
Keep on scrolling for all of the inspiration you need, and don't forget to check out my product recommendations to re-create the looks at home. Autumn, we're almost ready for you…
1. Goth Punk Eye Makeup
"Autumn 2023 makeup will see a goth punk vibe," says Coombes. "Think intense eyes, with an unpolished black or dark brown smokey eye, paired with a soft, matte complexion and nude lips."
How stunning is this black smokey eye? I love that the rest of the makeup look is kept super simple to make the eye shadow stand out even more.
Add a black or dark blue eyeliner for extra definition.

This eyeshadow palette from Natasha Denona has every colour you need for the perfect goth-punk eye look.
Add this eye crayon for the ultimate statement, and use the handy applicator to blend it out for an unpolished finish.
2. Statement Lips
If you don't want to go heavy on the eye makeup, why not opt for a statement lip instead? As explained by Coombes, "This season will be all about the statement lip—deep lip liner shades with contrasting, highly pigmented deep red lipstick shades to create an intense, 'vamp-punk' version of the '90s lip trend."
This deep red colour is going to be my new go-to for autumn and beyond.
If you don't fancy red, a dark pink or brown lipstick should do the trick.

Charlotte Tilbury has created the most beautiful deep red shade in a creamy, matte formula.
For that '90s look, add a darker lip liner like this one from Pat McGrath Labs.
3. Wild But Defined Brows
Now this is a trend that I can definitely get on board with, as it allows me to keep my eyebrows as bushy as I desire. "This is an effortless look created by brushing up the brows," says Coombes. "I recommend filling in the gaps with a precise brow pencil and fixing the brow hair using a tinted or clear brow gel."
There really is nothing I love more than a thick, bushy brow look.
Pair your statement brows with fun eye shadow for a playful touch to your makeup.
Shop the Trend:
To get the look, first fill in your brows with a slim brow pencil, but keep it looking natural. My favourite one is Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz.
Then, add a clear or tinted brow gel to set the hairs in place. Brush the hairs upwards for that bushy finish.
4. Berry Cheeks
If you've been on social media lately, then you'll definitely have come across the makeup trend known as "strawberry girl". Hailey Bieber has been sharing lots of snaps on Instagram with berry-coloured cheeks and lips, and Coombes says that this trend will be big for autumn. "Think contoured cheeks in cool berry shades. Take your blush and lightly swipe it in a C-shape application from temple to cheek."
I love how Hailey has taken some of the blusher across the bridge of her nose for a seamless finish.
Take a leaf out of Kylie Jenner's book and match your berry blush to your lipstick.

A cream blush will give a beautiful, dewy finish, and this shade from Beauty Pie is the perfect "strawberry girl" colour.
If you prefer a powder, you simply can't go wrong with Dior's Rosy Glow Blush in the shade Berry.
5. Luminous Skin
If you know me, you'll know that I love glowy, radiant skin, so I was very happy to hear that this trend is here to stay this autumn. "Use lightweight base products to create the effect of a natural, glowing complexion," says Coombes. "This luminous, 'no-makeup makeup' look can be achieved with intensely hydrated skin and sheer foundation."
This trend really lets your skin do all the talking.
Whatever Selena Gomez is using, I need to get my hands on it ASAP.
Shop the Trend:
If I had to guess what was on Selena's skin, I'd say it was this illuminating primer from the her own brand, Rare Beauty.
As advised by Coombes, use a sheer foundation or skin tint for that luminous look. This one by Summer Fridays is lightweight on the skin, yet still provides a little bit of coverage.
