We're Hiring: Associate News Editor
Clique Inc.—parent company to WhoWhatWear.com, MyDomaine.com, and Byrdie.com—is currently seeking a full-time Associate News Editor based in Los Angeles to join its fast-paced WhoWhatWear.com editorial team. The ideal candidate is an accomplished online editor with a comprehensive knowledge of fashion news, pop culture, celebrity style, and fashion brands, as well as exceptionally strong writing skills. WhoWhatWear.com’s Associate News Editor must be used to working at an extremely fast pace and able to create high-quality, viral content. The position offers enormous potential for growth within the company, and is an integral part of this exciting multimedia fashion startup.
Responsibilities:
- Keeping a finger on the pulse of fashion, style, and celebrity news
- Writing as many as 7 to 8 fashion news stories a day
- Photo research, including downloading and gathering photo credits
- Producing stories in the CMS
- Writing social copy around each story
- Working closely with the Managing Editor to keep the team abreast of any and all relevant style news
- Working closely with PR agencies for breaking news and any exclusive features
- Recruiting, training, and teaching interns to help with all of the above.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in journalism, with the bulk of experience in digital and a proven background in fashion
- Instinctual knowledge of what makes a story newsy, relevant, and clicky
- Experience producing a high volume of daily stories, as well as daily pick-ups and original reporting
- Educated in SEO best practices and how to write for social media
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong grammar, research, and copy-editing skills, as well as a deep love for fashion and celebrity news
- Firsthand experience with daily publishing in a CMS, plus familiarity with HTML and web-publishing software tools
- A comprehensive knowledge of celebrities, models, tastemakers, bloggers, designers, and stylists
- Ability to work calmly under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and provide self-guidance
- Strong contacts/relationships with fashion industry press teams and celebrity publicists a plus
- Familiarity with WhoWhatWear.com’s voice and style
- A team player, with a resourceful can-do attitude, who thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
Compensation: This is a full-time salaried position located in Los Angeles. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
