Ash Hart Modelling Spring Denim is Anything But Basic
Ashley Hart has grown up watching older sister Jess take over the fashion world, but now, the Just Jeans brand ambassador has her own story to tell.
On a recent trip back to Australia, we caught up in Sydney’s Surry Hills at The Fashion Institute to road test some new season denim and chat style, her first fashion memory and what’s next for the yoga-loving blonde.
Keep scrolling to read our interview and see how Ash is wearing her denim this spring.
Who What Wear: Do you have any denim dos and don’ts?
Ashley Hart: I’m obsessed with denim so there’s a lot of dos. I’m very much into more is more at the moment. I’ve been wearing denim vests under denim jackets and then layering my leather jacket over the top.
My don’ts? The worst thing I’ve ever seen is the Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake full denim look, but then you know, everything comes back around so anything I think just find what works for you and you can do no wrong.

WWW: You’re always in jeans—do you have a go-to style?
AH: Depends on my mood—it goes between baggy boyfriend and a high rise skinny. A high waisted black skinny style is my go-to for a night out.

WWW: What are you pairing with your denim this season?
AH: I love boyfriend jeans with an amazing, sexy heel and keeping everything else relaxed. I keep wearing a lot of white cropped jeans—they’re just so easy to wear with boots and a leather jacket.

WWW: What is the first piece of clothing you loved and didn’t want to part with?
AH: First memory of fashion? I was such a tomboy and Mum used to put my sister Jess and I in dresses and there was this polka-dot navy and white dress with a little collar and high neck and I remember feeling really girly in it and really loved it.

WWW: What are five items you’ll be adding to your wardrobe for spring?
AH: I’m in love with a Scanlan Theodore khaki leather jacket—it’s perfect for chilly nights. I really want some high waisted cropped flare pants in a really bright, fun colour. Definitely a hat—I always buy a new hat each season, it’s my thing. Some fine gold jewellery and some sky high strappy heels. All the staples I’d usually wear, but refreshed for spring.

WWW: Do you and Jess ever share clothes?
AH: We’ve gotten really good at it now, but it was always the one thing we would fight over when we were younger. I used to have the nicer wardrobe and was really obsessive about keeping it tidy—everything was colour coordinated and Jess would be the grub and would come and borrow my stuff and mess everything—I’d know exactly where she took it from!
But now she has the most ridiculous wardrobe—like dream wardrobe—it’s more of a room! Every time I go to her place, she’s really generous with her stuff so we do a bit of a swap.

WWW: What’s the best style tip Jess has ever given you?
AH: I think because we’re sisters, we’re really honest with each other. At the moment I’m telling her she’s been dressing way too preppy—I’ve told her to go and rough up her look a bit! She used to be such a rock star with her outfits but she isn’t doing that at the moment. She thinks I’ve been dressing way too hippy.
No matter where I am, my style adapts and changes and because I travel so much, I really do have a mix of style, so you can’t really put me in a box. How I dress is a reflection of how I’m feeling on the day, and that’s the fun of it! Dressing myself is my favourite part of the day. It’s my art.

WWW: What’s next for you?
AH: Work is amazing and better than it’s ever been—I’m so grateful for everything, it’s incredible. I just got married and everything has fallen into place beautifully, but I am really craving some family time and I would love to do a road trip and create a fashion story of my own and blog about it from the road.
