I'm a Fashion Expert With Classic Taste—Here's Everything on My New-Season Wish List
I think we can all agree that new-season pieces are permeating our feeds and the spring wardrobe transition is now fully underway. With every glimmer of sunshine, I'm inching further towards summery styles and the easy dresses, comfy sandals and pretty accessories in my arsenal (of which there are plenty). As premature as might think it be, I've already packed away my heavy coats and have pulled out my lightweight outerwear instead, which is soon to be followed by airy materials like cotton and linen.
Although I'm an advocate for personal style, spring and summer is a great time to broaden horizons, whether that's experimenting with new colourways and shapes or adding interest to simple looks with fun accessories and statement jewellery. But, when it comes to my favourite new-season offerings, I can't deny there's a common thread: a celebration of classics with a twist and buttery hues.
So if, like me, you're ready for spring, keep reading to see the new-season pieces that have caught my attention. From draped tops to sandals, these picks will have you dreaming of the sunny days ahead. Which, if this week's weather is anything to go by, are coming in thick and fast!
Shop My Edit of the Best New-In Pieces to Get Ready for Spring:
1. Tops
If you're one for minimalist style and unsure where to go after stocking up on t-shirts long and short, look for clean and elevated silhouettes. Case in point: this bodysuit by St Agni. It features slightly raised sleeves and a thin crepe fabrication which is gathered at the waist. I'd style this with bold earrings (keep scrolling for recommendations in this edit), barrel-leg jeans and heeled sandals.
Ninety Percent remains one of my favourite brands for elevated basics and this spring, the collection comprises taught tops, shorts and loungewear, to name a few. The brand is no longer providing on a wholesale basis, resulting in a significant price drop for us customers, whilst the quality and ethical stance remains. Genius!
Lately I've been donning blazers as tops and there's space for a short sleeved nipped in waist style. This blazer calls for a tailored skirt to lean even further into the '80s power suit look, albeit contemporary.
2. Bottoms
I always mull purchases over, however I've been coveting this skirt for quite some time so this may just be the month! It might look on the winter-y side, but paired tee and ballet flats and you have the perfect springtime look.
You'll find this silhouette and bright colourway on designer sites.
Add the matching blazer and there you have it—an easy-to-wear refined spring ensemble.
3. Dresses
Summer is on the horizon and Australian designers always excel when it comes to free-flowing, frothy frocks comprising linen and cotton. They're well familiar with this climate.
The perfect little black dress, complete with my favourite components—between the low-slung waist, asymmetric handle and flared skirt, it's magic.
This By Malene Birger drop waist frock is the latest addition to my wardrobe. It's taught, but comfortable so, thanks to the soft jersey fabric.
4. Handbags
Strathberry's delicious Charlotte shape is now available in a larger shape, which is music to my ears. Pillowy, spacious and awash with a supple suede. You're guaranteed plenty of wear out of it.
A suave suede number complete with a boxy silhouette, gold detailing and a supple handle. I'd expect no less from Nanushka.
Manu Atelier handbags are taking the fashion world by storm. The brand has earned forerunner status, especially for its buckle belt bags.
5. Jewellery
Cinco is often my go-to when it comes to overstated jewellery. One of its latest styles, Tilly, encompasses the ease of a huggy with 80's glamour. This style is available in various sizes—from mini to maxi.
The most adorable nuggets, courtesy of Soru's latest collaboration with Sapna Rao. You could say, I've been converted to silver.
It's always a great day in the industry when fashion and a wonderful initiative are combined. Cue Astrid & Miyu's collaboration with Hertility (a reproductive health brand). Expect to find dainty charms in the shapes of the uterus and vulva—symbolising abundance, life and growth.
6. Shoes
Simply exquisite are the words that come to mind when flicking through M&S's Spring and summer offerings. This barely-there sandal is one of my favourite pieces. It's timeless yet boasts a unique wrap-over feature, loaning it a modern touch. A piece like this will be in my wardrobe forever more.
