The 10 Anti-Trend Pieces Fashion People From NYC, L.A., and Paris All Rely On

While I love diving into lively and fun trends, I definitely have noticed a rise in prioritizing basics and more timeless pieces in one's outfit rotation. I've been on a mission to upgrade my collection of staples because I have been guilty in the past of opting for fleeting trends over simple pieces that can get more everyday wear. When I am styling these basics, I always look to fashion people from Paris, NYC, and L.A. for inspiration. Based on what they're wearing and posting about on IG, it's clear that the simple trends are standing out most because they're easy to wear and work flawlessly with any trend.

Below, I'm talking about all the wardrobe staples, from comfy trousers to oversize blazers. Keep scrolling for more, including styling references from the coolest of the fashion set and a range of shopping recommendations

1. Crisp Button-Downs

There's just something so effortless about a relaxed and crisp button-down. Wear it with jeans, or layer it over a spring dress—the options are endless.

2. Relaxed Trousers

High-rise, loose fit, and neutral colored—these are the three must-haves when it comes to finding perfect relaxed trousers. Call them grandpa trousers if you must, but I (and the fashion people in this mix) think they're the epitome of practical dressing.

3. Striped Tops

I know stripes aren't anything revolutionary in fashion, but once I bought a classic striped top, I was surprised by how many ways I could creatively style it. Sure, it's simple, but it will always make you look elevated.

4. Dad Sneakers

When it comes to the sneakers of the fashion set, it seems like old is gold. Vintage-style sneakers seem to be the preferred shoes of choice these days, and I'm 100% on board with it.

5. Oversize Blazers

What's a good collection of basics without a few oversize blazers? I love when fashion people go the more relaxed route with an easy dress or T-shirt layered under and some sneakers.

6. Straight-Leg Jeans

If there's a denim silhouette that's going to be a forever piece in your closet, it's straight-leg jeans. They are the medium between skinny and wide-leg jeans, and life is all about balance, right?

7. Ribbed Tops

Ribbed tops are not only comfy, but they also look and feel much more luxurious compared to other knits.

8. Leather Outerwear

Leather outerwear has always been a certified fashion-girl staple. Different silhouettes go in and out of style constantly, but personally, I think it's a free-for-all. When it comes to leather pieces, you pick which style you feel most comfortable with and stick with it.

9. Minimal Handbags

I love a handbag that makes a statement, but I've been convinced by the fashion set that investing in a simple handbag is key. Plus, you can throw on a minimal bag with almost every outfit you wear, and it'll still work.

10. Sleek Sunglasses

Tinted lenses and oversize shapes draw attention in the best way, but sometimes, you just need a pair of sunglasses to throw on and head out the door. That's where a cool and sleek pair of shades comes in handy.
