This Is What Anna Wintour Has to Say About the New Celine
Most of the fashion world (including us) weighed in on the new Celine last week when Hedi Slimane debuted his first collection as creative director of Celine (post–Saint Laurent) at Paris Fashion Week. But the one person we hadn't heard from (and perhaps the most import) is Anna Wintour. Until now. As she does each season for every city for Vogue, Wintour just gave her video review of PFW as a whole, and near the end, she brought up the collection we were all waiting to hear her take on: Celine. Toward the end of the video, Wintour mentions the surprise everyone felt that Slimane went in such a different direction with Celine, but she seems to be anything but shocked. "That is who he is," she says. She calls it a collection that's "genuine to his belief and sensibility" and calls out some of the standout pieces that went down the runway.
Perhaps the most telling thing for her to do would've been to not express her opinion about the collection at all. It may have indicated that she was trying to maintain a good relationship with Slimane but that the collection wasn't her cup of tea. Her review of the collection, albeit brief, was honest and spoke to the details that she can appreciate, without highlight those that she can't, if any. Keep scrolling watch Wintour's full review and to see some of the looks from the Celine show.
