AOC Says This $25 Vitamin C Serum Is Better Than the Expensive Versions
Like I mentioned when I discussed Kamala Harris's signature accessory, talking about a woman's fashion or beauty choices shouldn't detract from their achievements. Who said you can't talk about someone's style and substance? This is a sentiment that congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also stands behind.
Yesterday, AOC shared a new tidbit about her skincare routine on Twitter. In response to a question about what she uses, AOC replied: "I’ve actually been trying some new drugstore items in my skincare. The CeraVe Vit C serum is legit! I tried a fancier one before that but it turned orange too fast. I’ve also been using either the CeraVe tinted sunscreen or Ilia Beauty super serum w/ a little powder."
Previously, Vogue released a video where AOC went through her entire skincare and makeup routine. "There's this false idea that if you care about makeup or if your interests are in beauty and fashion that that's somehow frivolous," she said in the video. "But I actually think these are some of the most substantive decisions that we make, and we make them every morning." Amen to that. She also waxed poetic on the importance of one crucial skincare step: "Don't play games with sunscreen," she said.
While watching her routine, one of her products stood out to me: the Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream ($20), which is available to buy on Amazon and boasts 207 five-star reviews. Multiple reviews mention that it's a great affordable dupe for the cult-favorite Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Moisturizer ($68) because it's so hydrating and contains many of the same ingredients, including peptides and birrea seed oil. I also love that she uses Glossier's iconic Cloud Paint Cream Blush ($18)—specifically the Dusk shade. Scroll down to watch the full video and shop AOC's exact skincare and makeup products.
This product boasts 10% pure Vitamin C along with hyaluronic acid and ceramides.

AOC says she uses this toner as her very first skincare step. She lightly presses it into her skin using her fingers.
This has over 200 five-star reviews on Amazon because customers think it's incredibly moisturizing and soothing. Reviewers even say it's a great dupe for Drunk Elephant's Protini Polypeptide Moisturizer ($68).
"Don't play games with sunscreen," Ocasio-Cortez said in the video.
I also personally use this concealer and can attest to its natural look and longevity.
AOC says she uses this foundation when she has a long day of meetings and appearances.
She also alternates using this tinted moisturizer as a lighter option for a foundation.
As seen in the video, AOC specifically uses the Dusk shade of this popular cream blush.
Next, Kamala Harris has been wearing her signature accessory for $35 years.
Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
