It's This Exact Bob Style That I Think Looks Most Expensive

Another day, another bob hairstyle to consider for your autumn hair refresh. I know I might say this a lot, but I think the A-line bob could be my new favourite iteration of the classic, short haircut. It's chic, it's expensive-looking, and most importantly, it works for every single hair type. So, what is the A-line bob? If you're not yet clued up on this stylish cut, never fear, as I've grilled the pros to find out everything there is to know. If you're wondering whether to get the chop this autumn, then I highly advise that you keep on scrolling…

What Is the A-Line Bob?

According to Ondine Cowley, artistic director of Gielly Green, "An A-line bob is usually anything above the shoulder. It’s very blunt and precisely cut, but you can put an invisible layer throughout so it won’t show choppiness and will sit in a precise, elegant fashion. It can also be done with a fringe."

Cowley says that to achieve this haircut on clients, she does a wet-cut on the outline and then rough-dries the hair and dry-cuts the ends. "I add a graduation so it's solid-looking but flows," she explains. This graduation is often done so that the bob sits slightly shorter at the back, and gets a little bit longer near the front of the face. However, unlike the stacked bob, it doesn't involve layers.

"This style can be worn curly, straight and half-up-half-down," says Cowley. "It's very versatile and I would definitely recommend it as we go into autumn." This haircut doesn't have a one-size-fits-all approach, notes Cowley, so make sure to speak to your hairdresser to see how you can make it work for you.

How to Style the A-Line Bob

"If you have curly hair, you might want to wear it natural or dry it with a diffuser," suggests Cowley. "If you have straight hair, rough-dry and go, or loosely tong the hair, but make sure to leave the ends out. In my opinion, this haircut works well with a natural vibe." But if you do want to wear the bob sleek and straight, run a hair straightener through and finish with some shine spray for a glossy finish.
