This Summer Knitwear Trend Is All I Want to Wear Right Now
If there is one decade that has claimed the most fashion-column inches over the last 12 months, it has to be the 1990s. For those of us who grew up on a diet of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Tammy Girl, this was a little shock to the system. Is it even possible for your childhood years to be declared retro when you're still in your 20s? But, like it or not, crop tops, checked skirt suits and slip dresses have all had their comeback tour, and fashion lovers are self-declared number one fans.
As we slip into a (somewhat surreal) spring, there are rumblings of a new throwback style coming to the fore. The cardigan made its presence felt over winter 2019, but styling generally resembled the more oversize, grunge aesthetic of the '90s. However, this year, the silhouette has shrunk, and it's less Courtney Love, more Cher from Clueless.
Ribbed, slim-fitting and typically worn sans base layer, this preppy knit is undeniably useful for the WFH situation many of us find ourselves in. Essentially, we want something that will keep us warm without feeling overly bulky as we huddle over our tiny desks. It's also the sort of style that looks fab with basics, whether it's denim, tracksuits or knitted trousers. My personal fave styling trick is to tuck into jeans and add layered necklaces. Simple yet chic. Scroll down to see and shop my edit of '90s cardigans.
