This 2019 Trend Is Already Digging a Grave for Your Leggings

You heard it here first: bike shorts will be the trend to officially kill off leggings in 2019. No matter how you feel about the spandex shorts, you can no longer ignore their importance. After trending all over Instagram and earning celebrity fans like Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian-West, they've officially broken through this year and are giving their longer cousins—leggings—a run for their money.

Sure, bike shorts came out swinging this year, but we have data that will solidify them as a trend well into 2019, too. Pinterest just released its annual Pinterest 100 report where it shared insight into the top trends people are searching for. Among the 2019 fashion trends the site called out, bike shorts emerged with the most impressive numbers of the bunch—up by a whopping 1323%, in fact, according to the report.

After seeing bike shorts glide down the S/S 19 runways at Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Jacquemus, and Miaou, we're convinced they're only gaining more popularity as we head into next spring. We know they're a trickier trend to try, though, so keep reading to get inspired by how bike shorts are worn on the street and on Instagram; then shop our picks.
