November Editorial: Esprit d'Automne

As the sun slowly heads into hibernation and the trees start sprinkling the streets with their leaves, it's easy to look at your stark, dark surroundings and dress accordingly. But rather than mimicking autumn's austere color palette and outfitting yourself only in charcoal and coal, why not have fun with jaunty outerwear and lots of interesting layers? And while you're at it, please punctuate those ensembles with bright accessories in contrasting or coordinating hues. (A pair of cherry gloves is definitely the sartorial equivalent of an exclamation point, no?) The results will be chic, cheery, and completely au courant, in other words, exactly what you want right now!

sorry, but generally yuk. what was lauren thinking? how can i make this nana dress look more frumpy. i know! grey ankle boots, that make my skinny legs look like whitewashed tree trunks. yeah, that'll work. they need pants to work! skinny ones. that's all.

fab styling.

Posted by: sarah |  2009-11-09 19:32:37

the hats. love the hats! www.newandworthy.com

Posted by: shauna |  2009-11-06 09:40:43

too much going on. no piece stands out, it all gets totally lost in all the layers

Posted by: Alice |  2009-11-05 00:18:43

wow the clothes are awesome. i guess it takes a lot of confidence to pull these off, and some people just don't have that confidence so they disapprove instead; which is such a shame cause this editorial was styled so perfectly! i'd wear any of these on any given (cold) day.

Love Love love the looks (: It screams Autumn!

Posted by: Pjjjj |  2009-11-04 17:17:02

The photography is good, and on the positive side, most people will be able to get away with layering using things already in their closet. Not crazy about all of the combinations - some look like the model is playing dress up in mommy's closet. But individually most of the pieces are wearable Signature9

Posted by: Signature9 |  2009-11-04 08:10:50

I really disagree with VIKKY, this is totally wearable! Love layering <3 http://barkatt-barbro.blogspot.com/

Posted by: Barbro Andersen |  2009-11-04 05:11:23

THE PHOTOS ARE NICE! BUT NONE OF THESE LOOKS ARE WEARABLE, YES LAYERING KNITTED SWEATERS IS IN, BUT SHE LOOKS LIKE SHES WEARING 5 OUTFITS AT ONE TIME LOL, I LIKE THE IDEA OF INCORPORATING BRIGHT COLORS INTO WINTER/FALL WEAR (LOOK 5) BUT IN ORDER TO PULL THAT LOOK OFF IT SHOULD BEEN CLEAN CUT AND SIMPLE, SINCE U ALREADY WORKING W/ 2 LOOKS THAT DONT REALLY MIX WELL

Posted by: VIKKY |  2009-11-04 02:21:34

I like the black & white one,but that's it.....(sadly)

Posted by: Chloe  |  2009-11-04 01:16:27

sorry but no...this is so wrong on sooo many levels. looks like an old bad editorial from teen vogue.

Posted by: lola |  2009-11-04 00:27:23

i really like those high-waisted slacks.. great for fall. selling old balenciaga gladiators if anyone is interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280418848354

SUPERB SHOOT!!! Super Inspirational-- especially since I've just recently made the move from Tropical Miami to Season-infused Raleigh, North Carolina! - Fashion CHALET

Take away the huge bow in her hair in look 6 and it would be perfect. :)

the third one is also my favorite. stunning accessories! http://fleckenzwerg.blogspot.com

what's with the 11 year old model? cute styling though.

Posted by: alison |  2009-11-03 12:10:48

Excellent editorial. A true celebration of originality. I get tired of seeing the same looks everywhere -- so cookie-cutter! This reminds me of the Natalie Portman post of a few days back: classic with a twist of modern. Love all the vibrant colors. This is the antithesis of winter blahs. Bring on the cool weather (I'm in SoCal). Very well-delivered, WWW!

Posted by: Lizzie |  2009-11-03 11:43:29

Yeah, I'd have to agree with some of the other comments. This is dissappointing.

Posted by: r |  2009-11-03 11:43:13

look two is by far my favorite and i really need a pair of wool shorts for fall. @nberougepartout on twitter. x

Posted by: s |  2009-11-03 11:28:03

This is by far my favorite editorial on www! please do more!

Posted by: sarah |  2009-11-03 10:30:15

I don't mind looks 4 and 5, but the rest is just kind of meh.

Posted by: LMB |  2009-11-03 10:01:23

love love looooving the beautiful colors. i adore everything about look 6.

Posted by: mirie |  2009-11-03 10:01:01

By far my favorite story. Love look number 3 and that TopShop jacket in the last look!

Posted by: Imani |  2009-11-03 09:33:37

Coco Chanel had many wonderful sayings and one was 'Before you leave the house take 1 thing off.' This editorial should have listened to Coco...much too much stuff. It looks like a girl playing dress up with all of her moms clothes. I am disappointed, I look forward to these.

Posted by: blinkbunny |  2009-11-03 09:30:48

i love that someone in fashion finally considers what to wear when it gets freezing cold. i think lots of layers and the combo of neutrals and brights is wonderful!

Posted by: anonymous |  2009-11-03 09:10:16

I love this! The colors are brilliant! http://crty.tv/standout/

Posted by: Patti |  2009-11-03 07:43:07

I like some of the individual pieces, and regret bringing negativity, but this editorial sucks.

Posted by: Kate |  2009-11-03 07:19:58

I love this editorial! I want everything in it!

Posted by: Anna |  2009-11-03 06:25:17

I marvel at how they make a 16 year old look 60 with too many layers and dull, dated colours. http://unlikeyyou.blogspot.com

Posted by: Jyun |  2009-11-03 05:17:46

overstyled.

Posted by: shirley |  2009-11-03 02:57:59

wow, the colors here are breathtaking! http://monicaburnett.blogspot.com/
