Seen at Kallmeyer and Dries Van Noten, brocade skirts brought lavish texture and a touch of historical grandeur to the fall runway. Richly patterned and inherently decorative, they're an easy way to make even the simplest outfit feel decidedly more dressed up.

Let's get into the specific trends I'm referring to. For starters, there was the color combination they wore: cream and tan. If you want to look elegant, you can't go wrong with this neutral palette. They both wore cream tops, tan pants, and shoes in a slightly darker shade of tan. The pant trend they wore? Slim bootcut pants, aka skinny flares, which is a very fall 2026 style, so you might want to add a pair to your closet. Last but not least, their shoes were pointed-toe camel leather styles, which were ideal for the cut of the pants and added even more sophistication to their outfits. Flats, kitten heels, higher pumps, or mules would work equally well. As for accessories, they wore black wraparound sunglasses and cream designer bags (Chanel for Jenner and Dior for Kloss).

Under his helm, Dior has returned to a more enchanting and feminine sensibility. Shows are now staged "en plein air" at the Le Bassin Octogonal in the Jardin des Tuileries; campaigns are shot in verdant parklands; collections are underpinned by a fascination with the natural world, resulting in darling lily pad heels and charming frog minaudières.

For spring/summer 2027, this green thumb grows more potent as a cluster of camphor trees, enveloped in mist, sets the scene for a collection that reimagines Dior’s archives through an idealised, organic lens. This process began with Anderson stumbling across the traditional Chinese practice of rolling wénwán walnuts, explaining that it "reminded me of how we can find knowledge and preciousness in nature."

Dior Spring/Summer 2027 Review

Over 65 looks, the concept of the sublime was mined through two distinct outlooks: a reverence for Dior’s signature motifs that were planted almost 80 years ago, and an homage to the Romantic art movement from the late 18th to early 19th centuries, which saw emotion and bucolic landscapes prevail. "The inherent nature of pieces from the archive is articulated in new ways," Anderson adds in the show notes.

Opening the show, which is already a standout of the Paris Fashion Week schedule, was a slew of pieces as diaphanous as the haze that cloaked the pond-like runway. These silhouettes also closed the show, nodding to the wildlife that Anderson finds so inspiring. Pieces in pinstripe, tartan and Prince of Wales checks were rendered as light as air. Breathless in their disposition, like Botticelli’s personification of Zephyrus (the personification of the west wind in Greek mythology) from his masterpiece "Primavera", they exhaled life and movement into these styles.

Elsewhere, hand-cut, featherweight petals adorned cropped jackets and miniskirts, evocative in shape of the frou-frou sets seen in his debut collection. Strings that resembled leis hung as earrings from a single ear, continuing this styling note seen in almost all of Anderson’s shows.

Accessories were particularly prominent throughout, especially as one of the most subversive details came through the fine body chains that dangled down torsos like wired headphones. In the back half of the show, bags were fixed with four-leaf clover motifs or presented as a swan-shaped vanity case. Eagle-eyed fans will also spot the return of the saddle bag on the runway.

The most remarkable elements, however, were the looks that directly unravelled the past. Several pieces riffed upon Dior’s famous La Cigale dress from 1952. Deriving its name from a cicada, the piece features soft lines that protrude from the hips at a convex slant. Staying true to its cocktail origins, Anderson’s iteration is made from fairy floss-pink pleated tulle and boasts a strapless neckline.

Additionally, houndstooth, which first appeared in Dior design lexicon when designing the "English petticoat" in 1938, appeared in wispy dusters and cropped jackets. You can already see the front row, including Rihanna, Jennifer Lawrence, Anya Taylor-Joy, Greta Lee, Rosalía and Inde Navarrette, clamouring to get their hands on these vintage-inspired shapes for their next red-carpet appearance.

This act of transparency almost felt like a quiet rebellion, because in these precarious times, clarity isn't the ultimate antithesis. The show notes summarised this best, declaring, "Shifting into a summer sensibility, the collection anticipates a warm breeze: with lightness comes movement."

1. The Runway

To be clear, I'm not tossing my high heels. They're still a staple, and they'll be ready for the next wedding, gala, or night out. I'm just pausing on buying new pairs so I can put my shoe budget toward the flats below. Keep scrolling for the seven styles I'm betting on this fall.

Jazz Shoes

If ballet flats have started to feel a little too sweet, meet their cooler cousin. Jazz shoes have the same low profile but with a lace-up front and a slightly sturdier sole. They're also one of the rare trends you can comfortably walk in all day.

Did we really think ballet flats were going anywhere? We've seen them in every color and with every embellishment imaginable, and now, fashion people are going back to the simple version. A black or nude pair with a rounded toe goes with trousers, denim, and dresses, which is exactly why I keep reaching for mine.

Mesh Flats

Mesh flats were supposed to be a summer thing, but they're sticking around this year. People are wearing them with socks or picking darker shades like black and chocolate brown, so they make sense in cooler weather. It's an easy way to keep a summer favorite in rotation for a few more months.

Pony-Hair Flats

A little texture makes even a simple outfit look more polished, and pony hair is the texture of the season. Look for leopard print, rich brown, or classic black, and wear them anywhere you'd normally wear plain leather flats.

Cool-Girl Sneakers

Chunky sneakers had their moment. The pairs fashion people are wearing now are slim, low-profile, and a little retro. Think suede, a thin sole, and a colorway you won't see on everyone else. They're absolutely cool girl coded.

Soft Loafers

Loafers show up every fall, but this year's version is softer. Instead of a chunky lug sole, fashion people are going for slim loafers with a thin sole or a lower vamp. You still get the polish of classic loafers in lighter shoes.

Almond-Toe Flats

Why choose between a round toe and a pointed toe when almond-toe flats land right in between? The shape lengthens the look of your foot without the sharp edge of pointy flats. Wear them with ankle-length trousers, and they look just as sleek as heels.

Treating it "like capital F fashion," Altuzarra reveals he approached the Old Navy partnership the same way as his eponymous ready-to-wear label. "I often start my own collections with a book as the inspiration," he tells me. "I had just read Wuthering Heights and Pride and Prejudice. I really imagine this collection on a windswept Scottish moor."

"There's this slight '90s grunge feeling to some of the collection. I love the idea of these tiered skirts that are windswept and feel a little bit bohemian," says Altuzarra. Casting Alexa Chung in the campaign ensured the grunge undertones wouldn't go unnoticed. After all, no name is more synonymous with indie grunge.

Alongside Chung's cool-girl aura, Altuzarra brought a certain controversial runway trend to Old Navy: balloon pants. "This was something that we introduced in our own collection," Altuzarra clarifies. "I love the idea of bringing it to the Old Navy customer."

A first for the Old Navy collaboration series, Old Navy x Altuzarra features matching women's, girls', and toddler pieces. "I have kids, so I was excited to be able to create some pieces for two of my kids, for the girls," Altuzarra shares.

What causes hair thinning?

Michael Tassavor, MD, FAAD, is a board-certified dermatologist at MDCS Dermatology. He says there are multiple causes of hair thinning, which is why a dermatology appointment can be so helpful in treating and/or reversing it. The most common? Androgenetic alopecia, the scientific term for hereditary, hormone-related hair thinning. Tassavor says it affects about half of women over a lifetime.

"Next is telogen effluvium from triggers like illness, childbirth, thyroid issues, low iron, or certain medications," he says. There's also autoimmune-related alopecia areata and traction alopecia, which is shedding from tight hairstyles and is largely preventable. "One more that shouldn't be missed: scarring alopecia, where inflammation destroys the follicle. That loss is permanent, so it needs early diagnosis. If shedding is persistent, it deserves a visit with a dermatologist," Tassavor explains.

Morgana Colombo, MD, FAAD, is a board-certified dermatologist at Integrated Dermatology of Reston. She reiterates that the potential causes of thinning can vary, from genetics to hormonal changes. The latter are particularly relevant to women, especially during perimenopause, menopause, postpartum, and with thyroid disorders. "We also commonly see increased shedding after significant physical or emotional stress, illness, surgery, rapid weight loss, nutritional deficiencies, or certain medications," she says. "This type of shedding (telogen effluvium) often becomes noticeable two to three months after the triggering event."

Helen Reavey is a celebrity trichologist and hairstylist and the founder of Act+Acre. For the unfamiliar, a trichologist specializes in hair and scalp health, which is why Reavey is uniquely positioned to speak to this issue. "I always encourage people to look at their hair and scalp holistically," she says. "Genetics can certainly play a role, but stress, hormonal changes, nutritional deficiencies, illness, certain medications, and even styling habits can all contribute to increased shedding or changes in density. Scalp health is also incredibly important. The scalp is where healthy hair begins, so maintaining a balanced, hydrated scalp environment is an essential part of supporting healthy hair growth."

Seasonal Hair Shedding

If you've noticed that your hair seems to thin in a particular season, you're not imagining things. Many people notice changes in their hair density in certain seasons, especially the fall. "It's completely normal to shed hair every day, but some people may notice an increase during seasonal transitions," Reavey says. "Hair naturally moves through different stages of the growth cycle, and at certain times, more hairs may enter the shedding phase at once. That said, if you're experiencing sudden or excessive shedding that persists, I always recommend speaking with a healthcare provider to determine whether there may be an underlying cause."

The derms agree. "There is evidence that hair shedding can fluctuate seasonally," Colombo says. "Some people notice increased shedding in late summer and fall and sometimes another smaller increase in the spring. Hair naturally cycles through growth, transition, and resting phases, so a certain amount of variation throughout the year is normal."

Tassavor seconds this, saying seasonal hair shedding is real: "Shedding peaks in late summer into fall and is lowest in late winter, likely a leftover mammalian rhythm. More follicles enter the resting phase in summer and shed a few months later. It's usually normal and temporary, not a sign of permanent thinning, but it can make an underlying thinning pattern look worse for a few weeks."

Can hair and scalp products actually reverse hair thinning?

You don't have to sit back and watch your hairline change or your ponytail shrink. When I ask Tassavor how much topical products can make a real, visible difference, he says, "Quite a bit if we're talking about the right one." With the right product, you can see a difference with consistent use.

Both derms recommend minoxidil, an FDA-approved over-the-counter medication widely used to treat pattern hair loss and stimulate hair growth. It's the hero ingredient in products like Rogaine. (More on that in a minute.) Reavey says non-minoxidil products can make a difference, too, as long as they're thoughtfully and intelligently formulated. "Topical products can be a really helpful part of a routine for thinning hair, especially when they're formulated to support the scalp and follicle environment," she says. "They may not address every underlying cause of hair loss, particularly if the cause is hormonal, genetic, or medical, but targeted scalp treatments can help create an optimal environment for healthier, fuller-looking hair."

How long does it take to reverse hair thinning?

To reiterate, you can treat and even reverse hair thinning. The downside? It might take longer than you would like it to. "Hair requires patience because its growth cycle is slow," Colombo says. "With an evidence-based treatment such as topical minoxidil, I generally tell patients not to judge the results after a few weeks. It often takes approximately three to six months to begin seeing a meaningful difference, and continued improvement may occur beyond that. Some people also experience a temporary increase in shedding when they begin minoxidil. That can be alarming, but it can occur as follicles transition into a new growth cycle. Consistency is extremely important. Hair treatments generally need to be used continuously to maintain their benefit."

Tassavor agrees, although he extends the timeline slightly farther. "Plan for six to 12 months of consistent use before visible density changes, with a check-in around six months. One honest warning: Many people shed more in the first month or two, and that's actually a good sign. Follicles [are] shifting into growth. And it's a commitment, not a course. Minoxidil controls thinning. It doesn't cure it, so stopping usually brings the shedding back within months," he says.

Reavey says consistency is just as important for non-minoxidil treatments. "I always tell people not to expect an overnight change in density from any topical treatment. With Act+Acre's Stem Cell Scalp Serum ($55), consumer testing found that 90% saw new hair growth in six weeks, while our 12-week clinical study showed 56% less visible hair fallout," she says. "Results will vary from person to person, but generally, you want to give a scalp treatment several weeks to a few months of consistent use before evaluating your results."

If you were on social media in 2022, your feeds were likely inundated with Japanese head spa videos. The series of compiled clips led viewers through the traditional treatments and often incorporated relaxing sounds, mesmerizing visuals, and other atmospheric elements for an immersive effect. Think low light, gurgling water, foaming lather, and rhythmic scalp massaging. The popularity of these videos wasn't accidental. It coincided with an online infatuation with ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response). For the uninitiated, this is a category of content that's designed to produce a pleasant, calming effect in its audience. The internet, it seems, was infatuated with slow, soothing content, and in many ways, it still is.

This trend undoubtedly influenced some people to try a traditional Japanese head spa treatment for themselves, either Stateside or, if they're lucky enough, while on a trip to Tokyo. It also illuminated something: Many cultures have practiced scalpcare for centuries—long before it became trendy to do so with high-powered serums, red light devices, and the like. (South Asian hair oiling is a good example. It's been practiced for at least 5000 years in the Ayurvedic tradition.)

While the luxurious head spas we see on Instagram and TikTok are modern innovations, the Japanese focus on scalpcare can be traced back centuries, with practices such as anma (a form of massage) incorporating the head and scalp. Ahead, we dive into traditional Japanese head spas with the help of an expert, detailing what they involve, why they're so popular, and how they're self-care as well as a holistic wellness modality.

Shoji Sugimoto is the founder of Yolu Beauty Salon, a Japanese head spa located in Los Angeles. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of yōru no biyō (nighttime beauty), it aims to transform clients' nighttime beauty ritual into one of mindful, grounding renewal. Sugimoto says that the head spa, as a social media sensation, is fairly new, though its origins are antique: "[The head spa] took shape in Japanese salons in the early 2000s, but the thinking behind it is much older. Japan has always been a bathing culture: the onsen, the nightly soak, the belief that you care for yourself by starting clean and unhurried. Scalpcare grew naturally from that. So did yōru no biyō, or nighttime beauty, the idea that the evening is a window for restoration, a chance to reset body and mind before sleep. It's the philosophy Yolu was built on. The name itself comes from yoru, the Japanese word for "night," and every Yolu product is designed around that evening reset. The head spa is one of the clearest expressions."

According to the experts, a traditional head spa appointment is about rest and relaxation as much as it is about scalp- and haircare. "Each step has one purpose: to clear, to release, or to restore. It begins with a quiet consultation about the condition of the scalp and hair and where the day's stress is being held. Then comes the massage, the heart of the ritual," Sugimoto explains.

The authentic Japanese technique (the one Yolu's specialists are trained in) is entirely manual. Sugimoto says, "It's slow, methodical, and anatomically precise. It follows the pressure points across the scalp and down into the neck, shoulders, and jaw, and the specialist reads the tension by hand and adjusts throughout." This one-on-one attention is the whole point. It's a welcome respite from the fast-paced, machine-powered world.

After the massage is complete, a warm waterfall head bath usually follows, and then scalp and hair products are worked in by hand. "The session closes with a scalp serum and a leave-in, then a blow-dry, often served with a cup of Japanese tea so you return to the day unhurried," Sugimoto concludes.

Most head spa treatments incorporate traditional Japanese ingredients, including camellia (tsubaki) oil and rice water. "Plant-based ingredients are still popular today because they're gentle on skin and hair but still effective. That's the guiding principle in Japan: care that is gentle yet effective, nothing that strips. You see it in modern formulas too," Sugimoto says. Yolu's head spa treatments incorporate alpine willow extract and a proprietary Night Cap formula to help the scalp and hair maintain moisture balance. "Fragrance also matters more than people expect. It's part of the method, not a finishing touch. So much of a head spa is about settling the nervous system, and scent helps get you there," Sugimoto adds.

Settling the nervous system is the real point of the treatment; it just so happens that it begins at the scalp. Sugimoto explains, "A head spa works across the whole upper body (scalp, neck, and shoulders) to release tension and clear buildup. That's why the benefits people seek are as much about calm and sleep as about a clean scalp. What begins at the scalp doesn't stay there."

Yolu calls this a "chain reaction of wellness." Sugimoto says clients describe feeling lighter, physically and mentally, after treatment. They also experience improved circulation and real scalp relief. "Many sleep better that night. And because the scalp connects to the face, releasing it often eases facial tension too, leaving a balance that lingers. A calm, healthy scalp is where good hair and a settled mind begin," Sugimoto says.

In Japan, head spa appointments aren't a one-and-done ordeal. The benefits arise from consistency, which is why the experts recommend booking a treatment once a month. "One might think of it as a facial," Sugimoto says. "In Japan, the visit is only the beginning. Lasting results come from consistency. … More than 81% of people in Japan wash their hair every night, so scalpcare is already a daily reset before sleep. That nightly rhythm matters more than how often you book."

Sugimoto recommends establishing your own nightly wellness rhythm, starting at the scalp: "We built Yolu's Overnight haircare collection to carry that ritual home, working with the body's natural renewal cycle while you sleep. Treat your scalp like skin. Slow down and massage with your fingertips when you cleanse, add a scalp serum and a little oil, and do it unhurried. Dim the lights; let the scent settle you. That's yōru no biyō in your own bathroom. Whether or not you ever make it to the spa, that nightly ritual is what keeps the scalp balanced and the sense of release going."

At this point, we've learned plenty about what collagen can do for your skin, but as I recently discovered, it also has a place in your haircare routine. No, it's not 100% necessary that you try it, but I noticed a big positive difference in my normally dry strands once I gave it a shot.

The product I decided to try is Gisou's Honey Gloss Collagen Drops ($25). My hair was a little dull and dry at the time, and I needed a serious pick-me-up. I wondered whether a collagen-infused hair oil would even do anything, but to my surprise, these drops provided just the amount of hydration, shine, softness, and smoothing that I needed! Is collagen really good for hair?

While I definitely noticed some great benefits after using these collagen drops, there's actually a lot to unpack here when it comes to the topic of collagen in haircare. I asked Tina Mui, trichologist, master stylist, and cofounder of Aware Hair, for her expert insight. "Collagen has become such a focus in skincare because it's one of the major structural proteins in the skin and naturally declines with age and environmental damage," she explains. "But hair is different. The hair fiber itself is primarily made of keratin, not collagen. In haircare, I think of collagen much more as a protein treatment than a 'collagen treatment.' It's typically used in a hydrolyzed form, meaning the collagen has been broken down into smaller peptides that can interact more readily with the hair fiber."

Mui then explained that these peptides can deposit themselves onto damaged or porous areas of the hair, improving smoothness, softness, shine, and overall manageability. "From my experience, collagen is best viewed as a cosmetic ingredient for fiber conditioning and temporary strengthening/reinforcement," she continues. Not only that, but collagen can also provide conditioning benefits for the scalp. Hydrolyzed collagen supports surface hydration, so it's good for dryness around that area. "I think the important distinction is that topical collagen can be a useful conditioning ingredient for both the hair and scalp, but it isn't repairing hair from the inside out or directly stimulating hair growth," she adds.

Because of this, Mui said she wouldn't go running to the store to buy a hair product just because it contains collagen, but it is a nice addition if you are looking for added surface hydration. "I find it most relevant for someone whose hair isn't heavily color-treated or chemically processed but has become dry, rough, or harder to manage from regular heat styling or everyday wear," she says. "In that case, hydrolyzed collagen can make sense in a conditioner, mask, or leave-in as a way to support hair that needs a little more conditioning without necessarily requiring an intensive repair treatment.

I never do a full face of makeup without starting with a primer, and Danessa Myricks’ Yummy Skin Blurring Balm is unlike any other. It smooths the appearance of pores and texture without making the skin look too one-dimensional or flat, creating the perfect base for blurred, velvety makeup. You can opt for a clear universal shade, a tinted shade to match your complexion, or a radiant iteration for those looking for that extra glow. My only note would be that this product can be very mattifying, so as someone with very dry skin, I like to apply this product strategically rather than all over my face.

2. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation 

There’s a reason why Armani Luminous Silk foundation has become such a beauty editor's favourite. Perfectly sitting between a dewy and matte finish, this weightless foundation creates a your-skin-but-better base that’s hard to find on the market. Of course, I love to use this underneath all of my other beauty products; however, this foundation has also become my go-to for “no makeup” makeup days as well.

3. Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer 

Creamy but highly pigmented, this concealer goes a surprisingly long way. Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer gives my under-eye area a smooth, airbrushed appearance without making the rest of my makeup look overly flat or dry. And although it does require slightly more skin prep than the other concealers in my collection, I’d say it’s well worth it for the blurred, brightened effect it gives me.

However, YSL’s All Hours Hyper Finish Powder is the perfect medium, allowing me to set strategically while retaining a naturally radiant complexion. Not to mention, it comes with just the right amount of colour, meaning I can take it on the go to apply top-ups when needed.

5. Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Blush Blur

If you’re looking for a blush that’s not too dewy and will still give you that natural but soft-focus effect, a powder blush is your best bet. And although Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Blush Blur hasn’t been in my collection for very long, it’s quickly become a favourite of mine. With a finely milled powder that gives cheeks a soft, diffused look rather than an overly glass-skin glow, this blush is the perfect addition to a satin-finish makeup look. My favourite shades are Pillow Talk Dream (a burnt rose) and Forbidden Cherry (a burgundy), two shades that feel perfectly suited to the autumn season; however, there are also plenty of lighter alternatives that those with a paler complexion will love.

I sometimes find that traditional powder bronzers can make my face look too flat; whilst creams and liquids often add too much unwanted shine, I was very happy to have discovered Saie’s Supersuede ™ Radiant Baked Bronzer, which is a baked formula that adds warmth and radiance to the face without looking too dewy. I never deny the ability of a shimmery eyeshadow to take a look from basic to elevated; however, when I’m doing my satin makeup routine, I find that nothing compares to a blurred, suede-like finish on the eyelids. I have to admit, before trying MAC’s Macximal Sleek Satin Lipstick, I’ve always stayed away from lipsticks due to how drying they felt on my lips. However, this formula is packed with skin-loving ingredients such as rosehip seed oil, camellia oil and pomegranate flower extract to hydrate and condition the lips throughout the day. Because of this, it doesn’t last as long as a traditional matte formula, but the elegant satin finish, along with what might just be the biggest lipstick shade range I've personally ever seen, makes this a product that I reach for time and time again.
