Suddenly, This Elegant Shoe Trend Is Everywhere—and Replacing My Flats

As fashion editors, we're constantly monitoring new-season trends, whether they be micro or mega, we want to know about them. Whilst some crop up suddenly, others have a slower, steadier approach, avoiding a huge spike in interest but rather enjoying a tempered incline. My experience in the industry has taught me that these are the trends that stick.

Over the past few months, I've spotted a few items that fall into this promising category. Pencil and wool skirts have enjoyed a resurgence, and crewneck cardigans are back everywhere you look. And on the footwear front, there's no trend I'm more compelled by than the revival of the kitten heel.

Having shed themselves of the stuffy connotations of yesteryear, 2024's kitten heels feel decidedly fresh. Whilst the versatile heel was a mainstay in any 90s girl's wardrobe, the '00s and '10s cast them aside for their overly prim and polished silhouette. Now, with sharp, pointed toes and strappy slingback details, the trending, mid-heel shoes encapsulate style in 2024 like no other.

Styling well with micro, midi and maxi hem lengths as well as baggy jeans and slim-leg trousers, kitten heels have proven themselves to be some of the chicest and most versatile on the market. Whilst a classic black pair won't go amiss, the past few months have seen vivid red, deep merlot and warm brown colourways win fashion hearts.

Designer brands such as Toteme and The Row have explored minimal, strappy styles, whilst high-street heroes including & Other Stories, Mango and Reformation have experimented with the trending shape, favouring buckle details and bow embellishments as well as pared-back designs throughout their offerings.

Pairing just as well with tights as bare legs, this evergreen trend will work hard to elevate any casual outfit. To shop the new-season footwear trend with real longevity, read on to discover our edit of the best kitten heels available to buy now.
