My Vibe for Fourth of July Is Timeless and Elegant—7 Looks I'm Considering
I favor the low-key holidays. Bigger celebrations come with a lot of pressure to do something grand, but the fact that the Fourth of July can simply mean a break from work and a picnic in the park with friends is why I love it so much. It's a simple and easy way to celebrate the peak of summer with the people you care about.
I used to put a lot of effort into wearing American flag colors for the holiday, but I've started to prefer a more subdued approach to personal style during this long weekend. White poplin maxi dresses, a pop of red in the footwear department, or just blue jeans feels like the ultimate Americana for me. Below, I've shopped out seven outfits that I feel simply make sense for this holiday. They're timeless, effortless, and elegant. Enjoy.
I’m obsessed with the contrast between sporty and polished in this look. Vintage collegiate sporty shorts meet a fitted poplin top that creates the ultimate juxtaposition that I’m obsessed with.
This dress keeps selling out over and over again, so if you’re interested, make moves now. A simple headscarf is a great way to make a dress you’ve already worn feel brand-new.
I’m obsessed with any sort of matching set that I can get my hands on, so seeing this longline-vest-and-miniskirt combination immediately stopped my scrolling. Pair it with a basket bag, and I’m ready for brunch with the girls.
If your Fourth of July itinerary involves relaxing at home, just know I envy that level of simplicity. A ribbed tank and linen pants are the effortless outfit combination I suggest throwing on for the occasion.
I’m picturing myself in New England in a linen suit, and I just can’t get enough. A super-lightweight collarless blazer looks even better with matching pants.
I love a theme of any sort, so if you’re going for full-on Americana, you’re probably just as excited as I am. A long red dress is the perfect purchase because it will make so much sense on Fourth of July but also look good for every other occasion on your calendar.
Since most people sprint for a dress on holidays like the Fourth of July, I’m keeping things interesting here with another pant look. A white poplin top like this paired with straight-leg trousers is what I’d consider wearing to host a backyard barbecue.
Sierra Mayhew was always destined to work in fashion, but she didn't know it at first. Growing up with no choice but to wear a rotation of school uniforms and activewear, her love for fashion really blossomed when she moved away for college and was able to finally define her very own personal style. Shortly thereafter, she interned at Elle magazine and instantly knew that editorial was for her. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, she worked for ShopBazaar, contributing regularly to Bazaar.com, and finally made her way to Who What Wear, where she is an associate editor. When she’s not working, you can catch her always trying to catch a flight, trying the latest fitness craze in New York City, or exploring luxury vintage boutiques.
